https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=79t0alH0hok Please watch the video above and scroll down to view the eight techniques There are a lot of fun ways to use watercolor and today I’m going to show you 8 of my favorite techniques that are perfect for beginners (or any skill level). You can try one or two of these ideas, or make your own page of all 8 techniques. To do this, use a pencil and ruler to measure out 8 rectangles on your watercolor paper. Label each box with each technique as shown in the photo below. Note before you start:  I would recommend allowing each rectangle to dry completely before moving onto the next technique. You can use a hairdryer to speed the drying process along. TECHNIQUE #1: SALT Salt is my absolute favorite technique to use in creating textured backgrounds. I keep a small container of sea salt with my supply kit. To use the salt first choose one or two colors and paint the first rectangle (or area) completely. Then, while the pa

8 How to Paint Snowy Skies

Your Cart  -   $ 0.00 Search for: How to Paint Snowy Skies One of my favorite winter art projects  uses bleeding tissue paper to create a lovely swirl of snowy skies with just the right mix of color. All you need to do is overlap little squares of bleeding tissue paper on wet watercolor paper, wait a moment, and remove. The color left behind does all its magic. You would think that a bunch of squares would leave geometric shapes behind, but instead, they swirl together and make a very soft mix of cool color. I love that it keeps young ones from over mixing, which often happens with liquid or tray colors. You get a wonderful gradation from one shade to the next, no matter what your painting skill levels are like. MATERIALS •  Watercolor paper, I recommend Strathmore • Bleeding tissue paper • Sharpie marker, black, fine tip • Water in container and brush •  Sharpie White paint marker, fine tip DIRECTIONS PREP: Cut watercolor pa

Snowy Winter Silhouette Painting

Image
Snowy Winter Silhouette Painting   You can make the most of some easy painting ideas if you start with a limited palette (like cool colors) and then allow time for layers to dry. This pretty silhouette comes from first painting the background, then a black silhouette in the foreground. Easy, yet very striking. MATERIALS • Multimedia paper, 9″ x 12″ • Watercolor paint : blue, violet, white, black  • Dixie cups, or other paper cups • Water container and brush • Paper towels DIRECTIONS 1. Start with one paper cup with blue paint, one with violet, one with white, and two empty cups. 2. Paint a white ball somewhere on their paper. 3. Dip your brush in the violet and then back in the white and mix to make a light violet. A ring of light violet is painted around the white ball. 4. Wipe the brush clean and paint a ring of violet around the light violet. 5. Dip your brush into the blue and then back in the violet to make a blue-violet. This color is painted around the violet. 6.
